                           INTRODUCTION

The storyline of MOLD is quite a simple one. You play the part of
a crewmember of an intersteller spaceship who is awakened from deep
sleep (an artificially induced hibernation to allow people survive the
long periods needed to span the stellar gulfs) to find most of the crew
killed by a strange orange mould and the various systems aboard the ship
damaged beyond repair.

The objects of the game are to explore the ship, find the one other
surviving crewmember and get off the ship alive. Points are awarded for
reaching certain locations inside and outside the ship, discovering
information about the state of the ship and for finding the other
surviving crewmember.

It is possible to win the game, i.e., get off the ship alive, without
scoring all the points. In fact the shortest winning route, described
below, involves scoring only 5 out of the total of 250 points.

Through out this text the <highlighted> words are the commands you
should use while playing the game.

                         MOULD INFECTION

At various places throughout the game it is possible for you to
become infected by the mould. This has no immediate affect on you but
once you are infected random messages are displayed to simulate the
affect of the mould attacking your central nervous system. It also
limits the time you have to complete the game as you will enter an
hallucinary state and eventually die. It is possible to delay this
happening, by injecting yourself with the antidote, but as there are
only five shots of antidote you only have at most 50 turns to complete
the game.

This is explained in more detail below.

There are 3 ways to get infected.

     1. In Cargo Hold 4 you have a 12% chance of brushing against
a patch of mould at each turn and getting infected.

     2. If you do anything to the mould in the Main Control room,
Airlock 4 or any of the Cargo Holds you will become
        infected.

     3. Baxter, the other surviving crewmember, is infected by the
mould and if you find her you may get infected from her.

Once you are infected you will start to get strange hallucinations,
10 moves later you will enter a trance for 10 more moves and then die as
the mould dissolves your brain. The only way to avoid this is to inject
yourself with the hypo-gun (initially located in the medical bay) with
the command <Inject Me>. This will reset the count so 10 moves later
you will have to repeat the injection. You have a maximum of 5 shots
with the Hypo-gun so once you are infected you have at most 50 moves to
complete the game.

The random messages you get once infected represent the affect of
the mould attacking different parts of your brain. The hallucination
trance in covered by a separate set of locations (numbers 150 to 159 --
Pine Forest, Market Street, Basketball Court, etc.). Once you are in
the trance the only way out is to inject yourself. If you do not inject
yourself you die.

                             SCORING

Below is a list of all the possible ways to score points in the
order you will probably encounter them while playing the game.

     1. You get 5 points for getting into the section D link
          corridor.

     2. You get 10 points for getting to the forward observation
dome. And another 20 for asking for help while there.

     3. You get 15, 5 and 10 points for reaching certain
locations in Cargo Hold 4. And another 20 for asking for
help at location 164 (one end of Cargo Hold 4).

     4. And 10 for reaching a point in Cargo Hold 3.

     5. And another 10 for reaching a point in Cargo Hold 1.

     6. And 25 for getting to maintenance control.

     7. When you are in conversation with Baxter. (Start
conversation by injecting Baxter.) If you then <Examine
Baxter> she asks if you are John you get 10 points for
saying yes. If you then <Talk to Baxter>, she will ask
for water, say you don't have any and you will get
another 10 points. If you then <wait> she will ask if
you think the world will be a better place. Answer yes
and you will get another 30 points.

     8. You score another 20 points for getting to the "Top" of
          the Auxiliary Fuel Tank.

     9. And another 25 for crawling up it as far as the handhold
          stretch.

     10. But you get a mere 10 points for getting as far into the
Living Quarters as you can go. (While wearing a working
          spacesuit.)

                        THE SHORTEST ROUTE

For the shortest route to the winning game end (The only game end
where the player does not end up dead) take the following actions :

<The highlighted words are the commands you should use.>

     1. <Press the button> at the initial starting position to
get out of the deep sleep Capsule.

     2. You end up floating in the middle of the room away from
the walls. The only you can move is by pushing off or
pulling something else. If you <Pull the Cable> you end
up at the door to the room.

     3. Next you should <Open the Door>. When you do this you
will hear the sound of escaping air, a very dangerous
          thing on a spaceship..

     4. However in the present scenario you have no other choice
but to either <Open the Door> (G to repeat the last
command) or Turn the Handle to fully open the door.
Closing the door and staying in the room gets you
          nowhere.

     5. You get sucked out by the escaping air into the link
corridor. Next you should <Take the Handle>, as you'll
need it later to open some doors.

     6. Then head <Right> along the corridor.

     7. <Open the Airlock>.

     8. And either <Enter the Airlock> or <Ahead> will get you
          inside it.

     9. Next <Close the section_D Door>.

     10. And <Open the section_C Door>.

     11. Then <Right> to exit from the airlock.

     12. The control panel for the door will explode and the door
will jam shut but you will get through to the next
section of corridor. Head <Right> along the section C
          Link Corridor.

     13. Until you come to the door to the Cargo Holds. <Open
          the Door with the Handle>.

     14. And head <Right> through the door.

     15. At the first junction turn <Left>.

     16. At the next head <Down>.

     17. Then <Open the Locker>.

     18. Inside you will find a Spacesuit so you should <Wear the
Suit>. This will keep you alive in a vacuum.

     19. Once you are wearing the Spacesuit move <Up> into the
          airlock.

     20. And <Close Door with Handle> to close the inner door.

     21. Once the inner door is closed it is safe to open the
outer one. If the inner door is open you will be sucked
out of the airlock by the force of the escaping air. A
plain <Open Door> will work here as the controls for the
outer door have not been affected by the mould yet.

     22. Next move <Up> to get out of the airlock.

     23. Then pull yourself <Up> along handhold inset in the
          hull.

     24. And <Up> at the first junction on rows of handhold.

     25. But <Right> at the next junction.

     26. When you get to the "Top" of the fuel tank go <Up> into
          the prefab Dome.

     27. Inside the dome <Push the Button> to win the game.

Following the above instructions will let you win the game,
but you will have only scored 5 points. To score the other 230 you
will have to explore a little.
