Piranha and DOS

You need 6.5 MEGS of FREE Extended memory to run Piranha.
You should also install SMARTDRIVE with 512K cache for DOS.

Piranha and Windows 3.1 or 3.11

If you must run Piranha under windows, try the following settings
in your PIF file:

            EMS Memory: KB Limit -1
            XMS Memory: KB Limit -1
         Display Usage: Full Screen
             Execution: Exclusive

Piranha and Windows 95

While Piranha will run under Windows 95, it isn't recommended.
You will probably get odd behavior and slowdown due to timer conflicts.
Note: Running Piranha in Windowed mode will cause serious slowdowns and
other conflicts.
GUS users may get no sound at all under Windows.

PIRANHA and OS/2

To get Piranha to run under OS/2, just increase your DPMI_MEMORY_LIMIT
to 8 megs or more. Piranha should then run perfectly with full sound.
Keep in mind that Piranha does not officially support OS/2.

                 2. TROUBLESHOOTING & COMMON PROBLEMS
                 ------------------------------------

Regardless of configuration, you should have no trouble running Piranha.
But in the unlikely case you do have problems, here are some helpful
pointers:

General Problems

=> Q: I HAVE LESS THAN 6.5MB OF TOTAL RAM, Piranha HANGS/CRASHES ON ME.
       WHAT CAN I DO?

A: You need 6.5Mb or more to run Piranha.
You might consider purchasing a memory upgrade. Every meg of RAM
       you add will increase performance.

=> Q: Piranha RUNS SLOWLY ON MY MACHINE, ESPECIALLY IN LARGE BATTLES.
       WHAT CAN I DO?

A: If you are running under Windows, close all unneeded programs
and try again. If that doesn't help, try to run in MS-DOS mode.
On windows 95: Select "Shut down.." from the Start menu and then
select "Restart the computer in MS-DOS mode", click OK. To get back
to Windows 95, enter "EXIT" from the command line.

=> Q: I HAVE A 486DX4/100 or BETTER, BUT Piranha STILL LOADS AND RUNS SLOWLY.

A: Check your sound card settings in SETSOUND. Incorrect settings
can cause significant slowdown. Also ISA Graphics Adapter
can cause significant slowdown. You might consider purchasing a
       VLB or PCI Graphics Adapter.

=> Q: MY COMPUTER HAS 8 MEGS OF RAM. BUT I CAN'T GET THE GAME RUNNING.

A: Remove all disk cache programs and unneeded TSR programs, such as
ANSI.SYS, VDISK.SYS,.. You might consider purchasing a memory upgrade.
Every meg of RAM you add will increase performance.

=> Q: Piranha LOCKS UP WHEN I RUN IT.

A: Try running Piranha with NOSOUND sound card setup. If this works, then
chances are it's a sound card problem. Run SETUP and make sure your
card settings are correct. If this doesn't help, refer to your
sound card manual for troubleshooting instructions,

=> Q: WHY DOES Piranha ACT STRANGELY WHEN I RUN IT UNDER WINDOWS?

A: While Piranha may run under Windows, it isn't recommended. You will
probably get odd behavior and slowdowns due to timer conflicts.
GUS users may get no sound at all under Windows.

=> Q: MY SOUND CARD ISN'T LISTED ON THE SETSOUND.

A: If the proper sound card don't appear in the SETSOUND, then you can
try SOUND BLASTER. While we tried to account for every possibility,
some of the sound cards may not be listed.

=> Q: I CAN'T SELECT THE RIGHT PORT FOR MY SOUNDCARD IN SETUP.

A: If the proper selections don't appear in the SETSOUND, then you can
always select them manually by OTHER: options in SETSOUND.EXE
located in your Piranha directory. While we tried to account for
every possibility, some of the more exotic configurations may not
       be listed.

=> Q: WHY DON'T I HEAR ANYTHING IN THE GAME?

A: You may have the wrong sound card selected, or incorrect port,
IRQ or DMA settings. Volume may be set too low in your sound
drivers (or the volume slider on the back of your sound card or
the volume slider on the SOUNDS menu).
Hardware conflicts or loose cables may be to blame as well.

=> Q: MY JOYSTICK ISN'T RESPONDING IN THE GAME. WHAT'S WRONG?

A: Be sure you have JOYSTICK selected in the Mainmenu/Controls menu,
and that it's calibrated. If your joystick connects to your
soundcard, make sure the joystick port jumper is ENABLED on the card.
Some soundcards have this disabled by default.

=> Q:  I HAVE A GATEWAY 2000 P75.  THE COLORS IN Piranha ARE COMPLETELY
MESSED UP. WHAT CAN I DO?

A: Do a hard reboot of your computer and enter the BIOS setup.
Find the "VGA Palette Snoop" option and disable it. This should
       fix the problem.

=> Q: Piranha LOCKS UP AT THE TITLE SCREEN.

A: Turn off the "Hidden Refresh" option in your BIOS Advanced settings.
Also make sure RAMBIOS.SYS does _not_ appear in your CONFIG.SYS
and that "Hardware Video Shadowing" is turned off in BIOS.

=> Q: When I run the Piranha I get the following message:
"(E001) Error: No VGA or MCGA detected!". WHAT CAN I DO?

A: Piranha needs VGA/MCGA compatible graphics card. If you are sure
that your computer has VGA/MCGA compatible graphics card, you can
       try command line option "-NOGDETECT".

=> Q: When I run the Piranha I get the following message:
"(E004) Error: You do not have 100Kb of free conventional memory
        available!". WHAT CAN I DO?

A: Piranha needs 100Kb of free conventional memory (base memory)
available. Try to remove all unneeded drivers or TSR programs from
       memory.

=> Q: When I run the Piranha I get the following message:
"(E006) Error: You do not have 6.5Mb of extended memory available!".
       WHAT CAN I DO?

A: You need 6.5Mb or more extended memory (EMS or XMS) to run Piranha
You might consider purchasing a memory upgrade. Every meg of RAM
       you add will increase performance.

=> Q: When I run the Piranha I get the following message:
       "(E010) Error: Missing files - ....".
       WHAT CAN I DO?

A: Some of the needed data files are missing or unavailable, try to
       Re-Install the game.
